Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

Four more hours of driving through some high country mountain passes to the northwest of Mesa Verde, and we arrived at Black Canyon of the Gunnison. If you didn't know about it from the park service signs, you'd practically fall into it and die. The Gunnison River carved out the canyon. According to the information, it's steeper than Grand Canyon.

Like almost every one of the parks we've been to, it's amazing. The sun was in the wrong direction for this picture, but you get the idea.  You have to look pretty close to see the river at the bottom.  I can never take a picture down and have it appear like it does for real, anyway.

You can see it twice in this picture: once in Mary Louise's Iphone and once in the picture.
