THREE NATIONAL PARKS IN THREE DAYS – GREAT SAND DUNES NP

From Dallas, we headed to Great Sand Dunes NP. We are on a quest to visit all the national parks in the 50 states. We're at about 70%, I think, but we forgot our list!

Colorado has 4 parks – Rocky Mountain NP, in north Colorado, we've already visited.  But we hadn't been to Great Sand Dunes in southeast Colorado. It looks just like the name:

-->

There's a stream to wade across and then it's just you and sand.

 There are no trails or paths – just sand. One guy was climbing up and skiing down on a snowboard – or in this case, I guess a sandboard. (This wasn't him in the picture, by the way.)

It's pretty amazing.

  1. Very cool! We went to the sand dune for a weekend a few years back. I thought it was such and interesting but alien landscape. I really liked the stream at the base but Joey says that by the end of the summer it's gone, it becomes subsurface. Wonder how it will stack up to Gates of the Arctic.....? :)
